ギャラリーキドプレスでは、2026年10月10日（土）から11月15日（日）まで、木戸涼子さんによる新作展『お菓子なテンペラ』を開催いたします。
本展では、マーブルチョコレート、サイコロキャラメル、卵かけご飯など、日々の暮らしのなかで親しまれてきた身近な食べ物を主題としたテンペラ画を発表いたします。
作家は、ルネサンス初期の宗教画に用いられた金地テンペラの技法を手がかりに、日常のなかにある食べ物と、それらにまつわる記憶や感情を描き出します。中世以来、聖人や聖母、聖なる物語を描いてきた荘厳な絵画形式と、駄菓子や日常の食事という極めて身近な題材。その一見すると意外な組み合わせは、見る者にふと「おや？」という感覚を呼び起こし、身近なものを新たな眼差しで見つめる契機となります。
金地の画面のなかで、マーブルチョコレートは光輪を思わせる輝きをまとい、安価でささやかなお菓子もまた、金色の背景に置かれることで、日常の価値尺度から解き放たれ、特別な存在として立ち現れます。
そこには、身近なお菓子をあえて荘厳な絵画のなかに置くことで、その存在を慈しみ、愛情をもって見つめ直そうとする作家の眼差しがあります。いわば「安いお菓子をドレスアップする」ことによって、誰もが一度は手にした小さな甘味に、記憶や愛着という固有の価値を与えています。
一方、油彩とテンペラの混合技法で書かれた卵かけご飯やお茶漬けといった慎ましい食事やスイーツたちは単なる静物としてではなく、個人的な思いを宿すものとして描かれ、チョコレートパフェは祭壇に捧げられた供物のような姿を見せます。テンペラの持つマットで繊細な表情と、油彩の持つ豊かな色彩感を組み合わせることで、画面全体に味わい深い表情を生み出しています。
『お菓子なテンペラ』は、古典的な技法と現代の日常を交差させながら、誰もが持っている「大切なもの」の記憶を、静かにすくい上げる展覧会です。

テンペラ画は、600年以上前の宗教画にも使われてきた古典技法です。
本来なら聖人や聖母が描かれていても不思議ではない金地の画面にマーブルチョコレート。
「おや？」と思っていただけたなら大成功です。
中世絵画と駄菓子というちょっとちぐはぐな組み合わせを楽しみながら、
身近な食べ物たちを少しだけ特別に見てもらえたらうれしく思います。

KIDO Press is pleased to present “Sweet Tempera”, an exhibition of new works by Ryoko Kido.
The exhibition features tempera paintings centered on familiar foods from everyday life, including marbled chocolates, dice-shaped caramels, and rice topped with raw egg.
Drawing inspiration from the gold-ground tempera paintings of the early Renaissance, the artist brings together everyday foods and the memories and emotions associated with them. The solemn visual language of religious painting―used since the Middle Ages to depict saints, the Virgin Mary, and sacred narratives―is juxtaposed with humble and familiar subjects such as penny candy and everyday meals. This unexpected pairing invites a moment of pause―a quiet “Oh?”―encouraging us to look at the familiar with fresh eyes.
Against the gold ground, marbled chocolates take on a radiance reminiscent of halos. Even inexpensive, modest sweets, when placed against a golden background, seem to step outside the usual measures of everyday value and emerge as something precious. At the heart of the work is the artist’s desire to cherish these familiar treats and look at them anew with affection by placing them within the context of solemn paintings. In a sense, she “dresses up” inexpensive sweets, giving the small candies that almost everyone has held in their hands at some point a value of their own―one rooted in memory and affection.
Meanwhile, humble foods such as rice topped with raw egg and ochazuke, painted using a combination of oil and tempera, are presented not simply as still lifes but as objects carrying personal memories and sentiments. A chocolate parfait, meanwhile, takes on the appearance of an offering placed upon an altar. By combining the matte, delicate surface of tempera with the rich colors of oil paint, the artist creates a quietly evocative atmosphere throughout the paintings.
Through the unexpected encounter between a classical painting technique and the foods of everyday life, “Sweet Tempera” gently brings to the surface memories of the small “treasures” we each hold dear.
“Comment”
Tempera painting is a classical technique that has been used in religious art for over 600 years. On a gold-leaf background―where it would be perfectly natural to see depictions of saints or the Virgin Mary―I’ve instead painted marble chocolates. If this makes you think, “Oh?” then I’ve succeeded. I hope you enjoy this slightly odd pairing of an old painting technique and an everyday sweet, and that it makes the familiar foods around you seem just a little more special.
