ギャラリー キドプレスは、清澄からアーツ千代田3331に移転して一周年となる2016年より新たな企画展シリーズをスタートします。「Artists’ Project」と題して、様々なアーティストたちによるプロジェクトの可能性を探り、工房で制作する版画作品の展示だけでなく、絵画、立体、インスタレーションなどの展示にも力を入れていきます。 その第一弾として2016年10月8日(土)から11月13日(日)まで、小畑多丘「ノリトグラフ」展を開催いたします。

1980年埼玉県生まれの小畑多丘は、「B-boying」をテーマとした立体作品から構成される空間インスタレーションを発表するアーティストであり、自らブレイクダンスを踊るB-boyであることが制作の大きな基盤となっています。木彫による等身大サイズのB-boy作品は、今にも勢いよく踊り出しそうな躍動感あふれるポーズとユーモラスな佇まいが国内外で大きな人気を博しています。>
また、2008年の「トーキョーワンダーウォール公募2008（立体・インスタレーション作品部門）」では大賞を受賞、2014年にはニューヨークで個展を開催するなど目覚ましい躍進を遂げています。>
今回の展示では、徐々に素材を削り落として生まれる木彫作品の引き算による造形表現とは対照的に、手で捏ねるプリミティブな感覚の面白さを出発点として粘土を足したり引いたりしながら、ノリ重視の即興的かつ身体的な感覚を造形化した作品のスタディを発表します。それと同時に制作を進めてきたドローイングをベースに実験的な素材を組み合わせたリトグラフ作品では、版表現の新たな可能性に挑戦しています。
このように「Artists’ Project」の展示では、最初から版画制作を前提とした進め方ではなく、アーティストの閃きや自由な発想を尊重し、よりフレキシブルに時間をかけてプロジェクトを進めていきます。 長期的なプロジェクトとして、今後もギャラリースペースと版画工房の両方の良さを生かしたプロジェクトの在り方をアーティストとともに模索していきたいと思います。
 



Gallery KIDO Press is commencing a new series of special exhibitions in 2016, which marks the first anniversary of its relocation from Kiyosumi to 3331 Arts Chiyoda. Under the banner of "artists' projects," we are exploring the possibilities of projects by various artists. The exhibitions will not be confined to printed works produced in our studio, but also encompass paintings, 3D works, and installations.

As the first installment in this series, we are going to hold an exhibition titled "Norithograph," consisting of works by Taku Obata, from October 8 to November 13, 2016.

Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1980, Taku Obata is an artist who produces spatial installations that take "b-boying" (hip-hop style) as their theme and consist of 3D works. His own identity as a b-boy who does break-dancing is a major foundation of his art. His actual-size b-boy wooden statues look as if they are ready to break into some powerful dance moves at any moment. Rendered in dynamic poses and somewhat amusing in appearance, they enjoy widespread popularity inside and outside Japan.

Obata has been making big strides as an artist. He took the grand prize at the Tokyo Wonder Wall Contest 2008 (in the category of 3D works and installations) in 2008 and staged a solo exhibition in New York in 2014.

For this exhibition, Obata is unveiling studies of works produced with a beat-based, improvised, and physical sensibility. In contrast to those shaped by subtraction like carved pieces born by gradually cutting away the base medium, these works spring from the primitive esthetic interest of molding with the hands and are shaped by adding and removing clay. At the same time, the artist is taking up the challenge of exploring new possibilities of printed expression with lithographs based on the drawings he has long been making and combining them with experimental materials.
