KIDO Press is pleased to announce an exhibition titled "rain after smile" by Ryoko Kido.

Like the changing weather, one day follows another in a repetitive sequence that need not, however, be monotonous.  Underlying the everyday are many things of precious value that are apt to be forgotten.
"Smile after Rain", the title of this exhibition, hints at the artist's quiet yet earnest conviction that, as they accumulate, even ordinary days when not everything goes our way gradually lead us to a better tomorrow.

Working mainly in tempera and oil paints, Ryoko Kido portrays delicate flowers, soft breezes, and warm smiles in light and fresh tones.  Human figures freely frolic over heaven and earth like souls that have slipped out of their host bodies.

Viewers will have the impression that the scenes depicted and the zero-gravity sensation have been encountered before, exactly like deja vu slices of their dreams.  The paintings are at the same time suffused with a nebulous feeling of reassurance that lends them a magical appeal.

She brought all of her rich sensibility to bear in going slowly back over each image in her mind and then carefully and lovingly rendering it.  Born from the assemblage of these fragments, the works are bound to resonate in the souls of their beholders with a pleasant timbre.  The Artist offered that this may be due to a kind of compassion which strikes a responsive chord in anyone's heart.
